About SolarBlog

Honest solar advice.
No strings attached.

We started SolarBlog because we were frustrated by solar advice that was really just a sales funnel. Every guide, calculator, and comparison on this site is written to help you make the best decision for your home — not to earn us a commission.

Independent

We don't sell solar panels and we don't take referral fees from installers. Our income comes from display advertising, which means our advice stays unbiased.

UK-Specific

Solar advice varies enormously by country. Everything on SolarBlog is written for the UK — our climate, our tariffs, our planning rules, our installers.

Kept Current

Panel prices, SEG rates, and government schemes change regularly. We review and update every guide at least twice a year so the numbers you read are real.

Our story

SolarBlog was founded in 2024 by a team of UK homeowners who had been through the solar research process and found it needlessly confusing. Most online resources were either too generic, too technical, or quietly trying to sell you something.

We built the resource we wished had existed — starting with a complete cost breakdown, a plain-English guide to the Smart Export Guarantee, and a calculator that accounts for UK irradiance levels by postcode region.

Today SolarBlog covers everything from buying your first panels to pairing solar with a heat pump and EV charger. If there's a topic we haven't covered yet, let us know.
